A Branch of Righteousness

Jeremiah revealed the problems of Judah, yet, the Lord spoke through the prophet to let the people know that they could not frustrate His plan, and He would send One who would promote righteousness,

“Behold, the days are coming,” says the LORD,
“That I will raise to David a Branch of righteousness;
A King shall reign and prosper,
And execute judgment and righteousness in the earth.
In His days Judah will be saved,
And Israel will dwell safely;
Now this is His name by which He will be called:
THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS.”
(Jer 23.5, 6)

First, Israel, then Judah, had several kings who led the nations in wickedness, whereas, the Lord promised to send a King who would lead the people in righteousness.

Enduring Hardship

Why do we believe that hardship signals God has something against us, and that prosperity means God favors us? Paul told Timothy, “You therefore must endure hardship as a good soldier of Jesus Christ” (2Ti 2.3).

That passage alerts us to the fact that Jesus allows us to have hardships, and that it is a sign we are active in His army. Therefore, do not look down upon hardship, but endure hardships for Jesus’ sake, even as you would gladly endure hardship for your nation. DR
