Remembering the Promises of God

By Don Ruhl

God promised something to Caleb and forty-five years later, he wanted to claim it. Caleb reminded Joshua of the promise, “Then the children of Judah came to Joshua in Gilgal. And Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite said to him: ‘You know the word which the LORD said to Moses the man of God concerning you and me in Kadesh Barnea’” (Jos 14.6).

He then reminded Joshua of the land promised to Caleb and why God made the promise. Caleb did the right thing in wanting the promise of God fulfilled and the man did the right thing by reminding Joshua of it.

We can do the same thing, speaking to God in prayer of His promises and claiming them. For example, have you sinned? Has God promised to forgive you, if you confess your sin to Him and repent of it? Yes, He has. Therefore, speak to Him of His promise and claim it.

Peter’s Mother-in-Law

By Don Ruhl

Simon Peter must have loved his mother-in-law, “Now He arose from the synagogue and entered Simon’s house. But Simon’s wife’s mother was sick with a high fever, and they made request of Him concerning her” (Luke 4.38).

Note these things:

1. Peter’s mother-in-law lived with him.

2. Peter had a mother-in-law, which disqualified him from being the first pope, because popes are not supposed to be married.

3. Peter’s mother-in-law was very sick and the family knew that Jesus could help her.
