From Shepherd to King

By Don Ruhl

God exalts those who have the right spirit, and David provides a good example, “Therefore all the elders of Israel came to the king at Hebron, and King David made a covenant with them at Hebron before the LORD. And they anointed David king over Israel” (2Sa 5.3).

David had been a shepherd, then he served King Saul, but the king tried to kill David several times. He often found himself in caves or anywhere he could hide from the king. Yet, David had the right spirit, wanting to glorify God and Israel. Therefore, the Lord made David king over the nation of Israel.

Humble yourself in the sight of the Lord and He will likewise lift you up!

To Have Eternal Life, Know the Commandments

By Don Ruhl

A ruler asked Jesus what had to be done to inherit eternal life. Jesus said, “You know the commandments: ‘Do not commit adultery,’ ‘Do not murder,’ ‘Do not steal,’ ‘Do not bear false witness,’ ‘Honor your father and your mother’” (Luke 18.20).

The ruler simply had to know the commandments and do them, or not do what the Lord forbid.

It is the same for Christians. Know the Scriptures and you will discover what the Lord wants you to do for eternal life.
