Do Not Be Afraid

You can live courageously in Christ

Mark 5.35, 36

Don Ruhl • Savage Street, Grants Pass, Oregon • January 13, In the year of our Lord, 2013

Prelude

  1. We frighten easily.
    1. Sometimes even God or Jesus frightens us,
    2. when they seek to comfort.
  2. However, Christians should live without fear.

Persuasion

  1. The Lord Is Our Shield

    1 After these things the word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision, saying, “Do not be afraid, Abram. I am your shield, your exceedingly great reward” (Gen 15.1).

  2. The Lord Fights for Us

    13 And Moses said to the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord, which He will accomplish for you today. For the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall see again no more forever. 14 The Lord will fight for you, and you shall hold your peace” (Exo 14.13, 14).

  3. The Lord Promises to Bear Our Burdens

    22 Cast your burden on the Lord,
    And He shall sustain you;
    He shall never permit the righteous to be moved.
    (Psa 55.22)

  4. The Lord Is with Us

    20 “…teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen (Matt 28.20).

  5. The Lord Aids Us During Death

    14 Inasmuch then as the children have partaken of flesh and blood, He Himself likewise shared in the same, that through death He might destroy him who had the power of death, that is, the devil, 15 and release those who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage. 16 For indeed He does not give aid to angels, but He does give aid to the seed of Abraham (Heb 2.14–16).

  6. The Lord Is Our Helper

    5 Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” 6 So we may boldly say:
    “The Lord is my helper;
    I will not fear.
    What can man do to me?”
    (Heb 13.5, 6).

Exhortation

  1. You are not alone.
