A Great Reunion

Jacob thought that he would never see Joseph again, believing that he was dead, but after twenty-two years had passed Jacob learned that his son was alive, and Jacob went down to Egypt to see his son.

Moses wrote briefly, “So Joseph made ready his chariot and went up to Goshen to meet his father Israel; and he presented himself to him, and fell on his neck and wept on his neck a good while” (Genesis 46.29).

Although Moses did not say much about that reunion, he said enough that we can imagine what that reunion must have been like!

What shall the reunion be like when we see our loved ones again who have died in Christ? (See First Thessalonians 4.13–18.) DR

Sorry, But Not Sorry Enough

Herodias, the niece and stepdaughter of Herod, so impressed him with a dance that he offered to give her virtually anything.

She consulted with her mother, who advised that she ask for the head of John the Baptizer, but Herod liked the bold preacher of God and was sorry; nevertheless, he did not want to disappoint anyone at the party, and wanted to keep his oath to the girl (Matthew 14.9).

The Bible says, “So he sent and had John beheaded in prison. And his head was brought on a platter and given to the girl, and she brought it to her mother” (Matthew 14.10–11).

Herod was sorry, but not sorry enough to save a man’s life. Sorrow is good, but it has to be strong enough to lead us to change our lives. DR
