Giving the glory to God

David and the Philistines were endless enemies, and so when the Philistines heard that Israel had made David king, they went and made a raid on Israel (1 Chronicles 14.9).

Then David inquired of the Lord whether to attack the Philistines, and He gave His approval and promised victory (1 Chronicles 14.10).

This was the result, “So they went up to Baal Perazim, and David defeated them there. Then David said, ‘God has broken through my enemies by my hand like a breakthrough of water.’ Therefore they called the name of that place Baal Perazim” (1 Chronicles 14.11).

David sought God’s guidance, and after receiving it, gave God the glory. David wanted to glorify the God of Israel and no other god, leading him to do this, “And when they left their gods there, David gave a commandment, and they were burned with fire” (1 Chronicles 14.12).

Do you seek God’s counsel for the affairs of your life? If so, be sure to glorify Him when He helps you. DR

Look beyond your prejudices and see the evidence

After Jesus healed a blind man on the Sabbath, the Pharisees questioned the man, and then questioned him again, but he wanted an explanation for the repeated questioning, asking if they wanted to become disciples of this unknown healer.

“Then they reviled him and said, ‘You are His disciple, but we are Moses’ disciples. We know that God spoke to Moses; as for this fellow, we do not know where He is from” (John 9.28–29).

Yet, all that they had to do was view the evidence of a genuine miraculous healing of blindness, which is what the blind man said next, “The man answered and said to them, ‘Why, this is a marvelous thing, that you do not know where He is from; yet He has opened my eyes!’” (John 9.30).

That makes me laugh. The man may have been blind at one time, but his mind could see the light.

The Pharisees said they did not know where Jesus was from, but what He had done showed His origin. DR
