Beware: Strength Can Lead to Arrogance
Of King Uzziah, the Bible says, “But when he was strong his heart was lifted up, to his destruction, for he transgressed against the LORD his God by entering the temple of the LORD to burn incense on the altar of incense” (2 Chronicles 26.16).
Uzziah had done wonderful things for Judah in the name of the God of Israel, and for that God prospered Uzziah, but he grew full of himself, and believed that he could do things he was not authorized to do, namely, entering the temple, going right to the altar of incense that sat in front of the curtain sealing off the Holy of Holies.
Only priests from the tribe of Levi could do such, and the writer says this was to Uzziah’s destruction, because God made the king a leper until the day of his death.
Have you reached success? Be careful, and do not think that you can then do things for which you do not have the authority. DR
What Jesus Could Say about the Disciples
As Jesus prayed the night before His death, He said, “I have manifested Your name to the men whom You have given Me out of the world. They were Yours, You gave them to Me, and they have kept Your word” (John 17.6).
Jesus stated what He did: He manifested the name of the Father to the disciples.
Jesus stated what the Father did: He gave Jesus the disciples.
Jesus stated what the disciples did: They kept the word of God.
At this time in your life, what would Jesus say of you? DR
