The Omnipotence of God and Skeptics

- Do you believe that God is omnipotent?
- What does it mean that He is omnipotent?
Persuasion:
- The Bible teaches that God is omnipotent.
- Gen 18.14
- Job 42.2
- Jer 32.17, 27
- Matt 19.26
- How skeptics challenge the omnipotence of God.
- “Can God create a rock so heavy that He cannot lift it?”
- This is a logical contradiction.
- God is not bound by gravity.
- “Can God make a square circle?”
- This also is a logical contradiction.
- If He could, could the skeptic recognize one?
- “Can God create a rock so heavy that He cannot lift it?”
- How do we answer these and other challenges?
- Beware of overemphasizing one attribute of God over another, e. g.,
- We cannot so focus on His grace that we forget He is a God of wrath.
- We cannot so focus on His wrath that we forget He is a God of grace.
- The Bible also says God cannot lie
- Tts 1.2
- Heb 6.18
- Therefore, He is a God of truth.
- Contradictions are not truth.
- Therefore, He cannot make contradictions, for that would be a lie.
