Tested in More Ways than One
Joseph told his brothers that he wanted to test their honesty, but he wanted to test much more than they realized,
“In this manner you shall be tested: By the life of Pharaoh, you shall not leave this place unless your youngest brother comes here. Send one of you, and let him bring your brother; and you shall be kept in prison, that your words may be tested to see whether there is any truth in you; or else, by the life of Pharaoh, surely you are spies!” So he put them all together in prison three days (Genesis 42.15–17).
They thought this Egyptian, whom we know to be Joseph, was only testing whether they were spies, but he also tested to see what kind of men they had become during the past twenty-two years.
Is it possible that you have been put into a difficult situation for someone to see whether you have grown as a Christian? DR
What Would You Give to Be in the Kingdom?
Jesus showed the worth of the kingdom of heaven with this brief parable,
“Again, the kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and hid; and for joy over it he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field” (Matthew 13.44).
That man knew the treasure in the field was worth more than everything he had, which is why he sold everything, knowing that he would gain something far greater.
So it is with the kingdom of heaven. We could even own the entire world, but selling it to enter the kingdom of heaven would be worth it, for we would be gaining so much more. DR
