What Happened to the Blood Moons Prophecy? 

Joel 2.30–32

Don Ruhl • Savage Street, Grants Pass, Oregon • November 8, In the year of our Lord, 2015

Prelude: 

  1. The 4 Blood Moon Prophecy according to Wikipedia,

    “…states that an ongoing tetrad (a series of four consecutive total lunar eclipses, with six full moons in between, and no intervening partial lunar eclipses) which began with the April 2014 lunar eclipse is a sign of the end times.”
  2. Bloodmoonscoming.com says,

    “The coming 2014-2015 Biblical Blood Moon Tetrad is Unstoppable, Phenomenal, and absolutely Unprecedented, like no other of the seven previous ones in world history can match. These coming Blood Moons and their accompanying Heavenly SIGNS even supersedes the SIGNS our Creator displayed in the Heavens during the Crucifixion, Death, Burial, and  Resurrection of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior, and that event is possibly the greatest in world history other than creation.”
  3. John Hagee promotes this the most. 
    1. They all use Joel 2.30–32.

      30 “And I will show wonders in the heavens and in the earth:
      Blood and fire and pillars of smoke.
      31 The sun shall be turned into darkness,
      And the moon into blood,
      Before the coming of the great and awesome day of the Lord.
      32 And it shall come to pass
      That whoever calls on the name of the Lord
      Shall be saved.
      For in Mount Zion and in Jerusalem there shall be deliverance,
      As the Lord has said,
      Among the remnant whom the Lord calls.”
      (Joel 2.30–32)
    2. And several other passages.
  4. In all that they say, Israel figures prominently. 
  5. Consider a few videos. 

Persuasion: 

  1. Israel was a means to an end, not an end in itself 
    1. Do you know what the end is or was?
    2. God used Israel to bring the Savior into the world.
      1. This all began with Genesis 12.3,

        3 “I will bless those who bless you,
        And I will curse him who curses you;
        And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.”
        (Gen 12.3)
      2. The message of the Bible,
        1. in particular the Hebrew Bible, the Old Testament,
        2. is not about Israel,
          1. it is God using Israel
          2. to keep His promise to Abraham to bless the world!
  2. People think there is a mathematical formula to figure out  
    1. If Jesus or the angels cannot know the hour or the day,
      1. why does any man think he can know it?

        36 “But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven [NIV, NASB, ESV, ASV: nor the Son], but My Father only” (Matt 24.36).
      2. However, the thrill that they might have discovered something
        1. is too much for some people, and
        2. they cannot resist telling the world.
    2. People sometimes counter
      1. that we cannot know the hour or the day, but
      2. that we can know the general time.
        1. No, First Thessalonians 5 makes it clear that we cannot know,

          1 But concerning the times and the seasons, brethren, you have no need that I should write to you. 2 For you yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so comes as a thief in the night (1Th 5.1–2).
  3. Do Not Be Dismayed at Signs in the Heavens

    2 Thus says the Lord:
    “Do not learn the way of the Gentiles;
    Do not be dismayed at the signs of heaven,
    For the Gentiles are dismayed at them.”
    (Jer 10.2)
    1. The Blood Moons prophets claimed that significant things would happen, and
    2. referred to past ones when significant things,
      1. especially with Israel, did happen, but
      2. that is selective.
        1. Tell me any month when something significant did not happen.
        2. Pick any historical event, figure out placement of stars, et al., and then
          1. see significant things, and
          2. you will see the fallacy of Hagee, et al.
  4. The End Will Come When Certain Conditions Exist 
    1. In Luke 18, Jesus questioned whether there would be faith when He returns,

      8 “I tell you that He will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will He really find faith on the earth?” (Luke 18.8).
    2. Second Peter 3 says that the Lord is not willing that any should perish.
      1. Therefore, He will not usher in the End
      2. until all who are going to be saved are saved,

        9 The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance (2Pe 3.9).
    3. Revelation 6 has the key text to the Book of Revelation,

      9 When He opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of those who had been slain for the word of God and for the testimony which they held. 10 And they cried with a loud voice, saying, “How long, O Lord, holy and true, until You judge and avenge our blood on those who dwell on the earth?” 11 Then a white robe was given to each of them; and it was said to them that they should rest a little while longer, until both the number of their fellow servants and their brethren, who would be killed as they were, was completed (Rev 6.9–11).
    4. Paul did give two signs in Second Thessalonians 2, but
      1. he did not say that the Second Coming or the End
      2. would happen as soon as the two signs passed,

        3 Let no one deceive you by any means; for that Day will not come unless the falling away comes first, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition… (2Th 2.3).
  5. What about the Four Blood Moons? 
    1. Acts 2 tells you what Joel 2 is about,

      16 “But this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel:

      17 “And it shall come to pass in the last days, says God,
      That I will pour out of My Spirit on all flesh;
      Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy,
      Your young men shall see visions,
      Your old men shall dream dreams.”
      (Acts 2.16–17)

    2. The blood moon prophets seem to agree
      1. that the reference is symbolic, otherwise,
      2. they would not say it is a lunar eclipse, and
      3. they would say that the moon would literally turn to blood.
  6. If You Think I Am Wrong 
    1. I first showed this to you in October 2014.
      1. Since Mr. Hagee said something significant
      2. would happen by October 2015,
        1. I waited and nothing happened and
        2. October 2015 has come and gone!
      3. This is November 2015!
    2. Mr. Hagee and the others have been wrong
      1. just like all the others before them.
      2. I do not question their zeal, but something is wrong with their theology.
  7. Past Prophecies 
    1. Harold Camping: May 21, 2011
    2. Charles Dyer: The First Persian Gulf War
    3. Edgar Whisenat: 88 Reasons Why the Rapture Could Be in 1988
      1. The publisher had a note on the inside:
      2. “If for some reason these events do not happen, I cannot see how any honest person could say anything but good about someone who would sound the alarm when they smell smoke.”
        1. However, I think I smelled something fishy!
        2. Yet, he had said, “I was just elated because God had sown me his dating system which had been the mystery for 2000 years” (On Borrowed Time, p. 19).
    4. Hal Lindsey: Around 1988
      1. “If this is a correct deduction, then within forty years or so of 1948, all these things could take place” (p. 54).
    5. Jehovah’s Witnesses several times
  8. Their Errors 
    1. They interpret the Bible politically.
    2. They do not understand the land promise to Abraham.
    3. They fail to understand the significance of the church.
    4. They fail to understand the First and Second Comings of Christ.
    5. They fail to see that the prophets spoke of the church and of the first coming of Christ.
