An Attack on Our God

By Don Ruhl

King Sennacherib of Assyria sent servants to Jerusalem to persuade the people to give up, saying, “Does not Hezekiah persuade you to give yourselves over to die by famine and by thirst, saying, ‘The LORD our God will deliver us from the hand of the king of Assyria’?” (2Ch 32.11).

Sennacherib may have thought with such words that he attacked Hezekiah, but in truth the Assyrian king attacked the Lord God of Israel, who is the God of heaven and earth, which means He was God over Assyria also!

The Assyrian king paid dearly for his blasphemy. He died.

We have to watch the things we say about God.

Straining Gnats and Swallowing Camels

By Don Ruhl

Jesus accused the scribes and Pharisees of straining out a gnat, but swallowing a camel (Matt 23.23, 24). John 18 provides an example of that, “Then they led Jesus from Caiaphas to the Praetorium, and it was early morning. But they themselves did not go into the Praetorium, lest they should be defiled, but that they might eat the Passover” (John 18.28).

Somehow in their minds it was okay, even righteous, to conspire on the death of Jesus, but to keep from defiling themselves on another matter.

Do we pick at little things, but swallow something much more dangerous?
