Another Time We Need God’s Mercy
We need God’s mercy for forgiveness when we sin, but we also need it when we are weak.
Much of Psalm 109 is about the crucifixion of Christ or events surrounding it. In verses 21–25 we have a prayer that Christ would have offered the Father during the crucifixion, and hear what He says about the need for mercy when weak.
“But You, O GOD the Lord, deal with me for Your name’s sake; because Your mercy is good, deliver me. For I am poor and needy…” He went on to speak of His wounded heart, His passing like a shadow, rejection like a man would reject a locust, His weak knees and feeble flesh from fasting, His reproach among men, and how people were shaking their heads at Him (Psalm 109.21–25).
Jesus needed the mercy of God during persecution. What about you? Do you need God’s mercy? If so, cry out for it! DR
The Motivation of Those Who Cause Division
Paul told the church to note those who cause division, because division is not what we have learned in Christ, but He wants us to strive for unity.
Then Paul revealed why people cause division and offend others, “For those who are such do not serve our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly, and by smooth words and flattering speech deceive the hearts of the simple” (Romans 16.18).
Such people are only thinking of themselves, and they will use whatever good-sounding words they can to persuade people to follow them. DR
