What is this talk about 4 blood moons? 

Joel 2.30–32

Don Ruhl • Savage Street, Grants Pass, Oregon • October 19, In the year of our Lord, 2014

Prelude: 

1. The 4 Blood Moon Prophecy according to Wikipedia,

   “…states that an ongoing tetrad (a series of four consecutive total lunar eclipses, with six full moons in between, and no intervening partial lunar eclipses) which began with the April 2014 lunar eclipse is a sign of the end times.”

2. Bloodmoonscoming.com says,

   “The coming 2014-2015 Biblical Blood Moon Tetrad is Unstoppable, Phenomenal, and absolutely Unprecedented, like no other of the seven previous ones in world history can match. These coming Blood Moons and their accompanying Heavenly SIGNS even supersedes the SIGNS our Creator displayed in the Heavens during the Crucifixion, Death, Burial, and  Resurrection of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior, and that event is possibly the greatest in world history other than creation.”

3. John Hagee promotes this the most.
   1. They all use Joel 2.30–32.

      30 “And I will show wonders in the heavens and in the earth:
      Blood and fire and pillars of smoke.
      31 The sun shall be turned into darkness,
      And the moon into blood,
      Before the coming of the great and awesome day of the Lord.
      32 And it shall come to pass
      That whoever calls on the name of the Lord
      Shall be saved.
      For in Mount Zion and in Jerusalem there shall be deliverance,
      As the Lord has said,
      Among the remnant whom the Lord calls.
      (Joel 2.30–32)

   2. They also use
      1. Genesis 1.14

         14 Then God said, “Let there be lights in the firmament of the heavens to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs and seasons, and for days and years…” (Gen 1.14).

      2. Psalm 104.19

         19 He appointed the moon for seasons;
         The sun knows its going down.
         (Psa 104.19)

      3. Matthew 24.29

         29 “Immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken” (Matt 24.29).

      4. Luke 21.25

         25 “And there will be signs in the sun, in the moon, and in the stars; and on the earth distress of nations, with perplexity, the sea and the waves roaring…” (Luke 21.25).

      5. Acts 2.20

         20 “The sun shall be turned into darkness,
         And the moon into blood,
         Before the coming of the great and awesome day of the Lord.”
         (Acts 2.20)

4. In all that they say, Israel figures prominently.
5. Consider a few videos.

Persuasion: 

1. Israel was a means to an end, not an end in itself
   1. Do you know what the end is or was?
   2. God used Israel to bring the Savior into the world.
      1. This all began with Genesis 12.3.
      2. The message of the Bible, in particular the Old Testament, is not about Israel, it is God using Israel to keep His promise to Abraham.
2. People think there is a mystery to figure out, a mathematical formula
   1. If Jesus cannot know the hour or the day,
      1. why does any man think he can know it?
      2. Matthew 24.36
   2. People sometimes counter
      1. that we cannot know the hour or the day, but
      2. that we can know the general time.
         1. No, First Thessalonians 5.1–2
3. Do Not Be Dismayed at Signs in the Heavens
   1. Jer 10.2
   2. They claim that significant things will happen, and
      1. refer to past ones when significant things, especially with Israel,
      2. did happen, but
         1. that is selective.
         2. Tell me any month when something significant did not happen.
            1. Pick any event in history, and figure out the placement of the stars, et al., and then
            2. see significant things, and you will see the fallacy of Hagee and others.
4. The End Will Come When Certain Conditions Exist
   1. Jesus questioned whether there would be faith when He returns.
      1. Luke 18.8
   2. Second Peter 3.9 says that the Lord is not willing that any should perish.
      1. Therefore, He will not usher in the End
      2. until all who are going to be saved are saved.
   3. Notice Revelation
      1. Rev 6.9–11
5. Paul did give two signs in Second Thessalonians 2, but
   1. he did not say that the Second Coming or the End
   2. would happen as soon as the two signs passed.
6. The Second Coming will be as a thief in the night
7. What about the four blood moons?
   1. Acts 2 tells you what Joel 2 is about
   2. The blood moon prophets seem to agree that the reference is symbolic, otherwise, they would not say it is a lunar eclipse.

Exhortation: 

1. Israel was a means, not an end.
2. No mathematical formula.
3. Don’t over-interpret heavenly signs.
4. The End comes when all who are to be saved are saved.
5. Two signs of Second Thessalonians 2 fulfilled.
6. Second Coming like a thief in the night.
7. Acts 2 explains Joel 2.
8. If you think I am wrong:
   1. Let’s wait and see what happens between now and October 2015.
   2. I predict they will be wrong just like all others.
